It’s official, Supporter: Moments ago, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced that he will convene a special legislative session to pass marriage equality!
Special session will begin the week of October 28th -- and together, we can fulfill the true spirit of aloha and ensure that Hawaii stands on the right side of history.
Today’s announcement is a HUGE step forward, but make no mistake: this fight is far from over. We got a special session called. Now we have to get the bill passed.
Since this morning, we’ve counted the votes over and over again and I won’t sugarcoat it: it’s going to be extremely close. Several lawmakers still haven’t decided which way they’ll vote. If we’re going to win their support, it’s going to take the most rigorous lobbying and grassroots organizing program we’ve ever run. We have to mobilize tens of thousands of supporters to take action in key districts across the state.
What we do right now will determine if thousands of Hawaii families will soon be afforded the protections and respect we all deserve -- that’s all there is to it.
By midnight tonight, we have to finalize our work plans for the week. And the amount of attention we’re able to focus on each swing legislator is up to you.
I can’t say mahalo enough for everything you’ve done to get us to this point, Supporter. The next several weeks will be intense -- and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
Let’s win this!
